The Workshop

The workshop will take place over two days.

Level 1 will take place on days one and two, with a mandatory Zoom class the night before day one. Level 2 will only take place on day two.

Stay Tuned for information about our next workshop!

Level 1

Each student for Level 1 will perform multiple burns.

  • The class starts with single-arm burns. We will focus on getting used to being on fire, overriding the "Lizard Brain", and becoming comfortable on fire.

  • Next, the performer will do double-arm burns, working with larger flames and practicing reacting to the fire.

  • Finally, we will work on half burns, or "jacket burns". Focusing on moving with the fire, performing for the camera, and practicing when and how to go down when it's time. This is where we take all the performance elements and shoot a realistic burn close to what would be expected on set.

When not prepping or performing, each student will learn how to set up, de-prep, and safety each burn.

Remember - for every 1 person on fire at least 3 others have a job.

Level 2

Any students who have taken a previous workshop with FJA Fire Stunts (or Northeast Fire Stunts) can sign up for Level 2.

  • Level 2 students will start with the half (jacket) burns they left off with in Level 1 - focusing on the same principles of safety, going down, movement, getting out of trouble, and performance.

  • Then, they will move up to 3/4 or full burns (depending on the student's comfort level and the instructor's approval).

Each Level 2 student will perform multiple burns of each size.

Level 1 students will train in the positions of set-up, safety, and prep and de-prep for each scene.
